Hey Chimp Announce Most Popular Christmas Elf Name

Elves, Elves, Everywhere!

It’s never too early to start planning for the festive season – and one of the first signs that Christmas is on its way is the appearance of an elf  - or more than one - in homes up and down the UK.

Neil Thurlwell, of personalised greetings card company, Hey Chimp, has charted the rise in personalised elf cards, fueled by lockdown Christmases. Neil said, “With the most popular elf name in the UK for 2021, Buddy, it’s unsurprising that most elves in Great Britain are male. When it comes to being naughty or nice, elves are overwhelmingly nice but there are a few elves who are questionable - with such Christmas excitement, that’s only to be expected.”

Where are the elves today?

With thousands of personalised elf cards created and sent last year, Hey Chimp has got the lowdown on the elf situation in the UK. Already popular in the US, housing an elf engages children (and parents) in the long run-up to Christmas as they look for the elf in a new place every day. Stretching parents’ ingenuity to find a fresh spot every day, these elves have become part of the family. Although they’re only with us for a short time, elves are named and become deeply loved by children across the UK.

How many do you have?

Hey Chimp’s elf intelligence shows that most homes have one elf, with two the next most popular number. A small number of homes have four or more elves on the loose in December! When elves come in pairs, the most popular name combos are Pixie & Dixie, Jingle & Belle and Cookie and Chip. When it comes to naming pairs of elves, Ronnie and Reggie feature in the top five!

Single elves enjoy names inspired by the Christmas season, with Elfie, Snowflake, Jingles and Sparkle taking the top spots. Not to be overlooked is the popular Eddie the Elf! Hey Chimp founder, Neil, has a son called Eddie and finds it quite funny that Eddie is such a popular name. Neil commented, “I can confirm it’s like having a a mischievous elf all year round.”

Our personalised Elf cards can herald the arrival of elves and start arriving at the beginning of December and normally leave in time for Father Christmas to arrive on Christmas Eve. Perhaps they get a lift home of the sleigh? Family traditions will dictate what gender the elf is and whether they’re naughty or nice.

Personalised cards that parents buy to give to children from the elves include:

Neil Thurlwell, Founder of Hey Chimp, said, “We are huge fans of Christmas and have a card for every member of the family, including dogs and cats, but we noticed a surge in personalised cards that were heading elf-wards. There is an undeniable magic around Christmas and we’re thrilled to be complicit in making moments of sheer joy when a card arrives from the elf or to a beautifully behaved child from the elf. The number of elf-related cards has revealed the most popular names for elves on shelves in the UK. This is what Christmas is all about.”
