Pride is Personal, So Make Your Message Personal Too
Pride isn’t just a party. It’s a celebration of identity, resilience, and being completely, unapologetically yourself. When you’re writing a card for a friend during Pride Month, think less “standard greeting” and more “this is so us.”
Whether your friendship is built on heart-to-hearts, chaotic nights out, or years of shared survival, your message can reflect that. And don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be you.
Say You’re Proud (and Be Specific)
“Proud of you” is a great start, but take it a step further. Think about the moments that made you stop and admire them. What have they overcome? What do they do that inspires you to be bolder, softer, louder, or more real? Your message doesn’t have to be grand, it just has to be specific, and from the heart.
- You’ve taught me how powerful softness can be. That’s something I’ll never forget.
- Proud of you for living loudly, laughing hard, and wearing glitter like armour.
- You’ve never dimmed your light to make others comfortable, and that’s iconic.
Bring in the In-Jokes and Chaos
Not every Pride message needs to be a tearjerker. If your friendship thrives on memes, mayhem, and mutual weirdness, then make your message a mirror of that energy. Whether it’s quoting your favourite chaotic TV moments or referencing that one time you both cried laughing at a glitter disaster, let the card sound like you two. Fun, familiar, and a little unhinged in the best way.
- Still can’t believe you wore that sequin onesie in public. Still can’t believe it worked.
- You’re the only person I trust to give life advice while also quoting drag race.
- Pride level: You. In full chaos mode. With disco ball earrings.
Acknowledge the Journey
For some, Pride is pure joy. For others, it’s complicated, woven with memories of coming out, being misunderstood, or learning to take up space in a world that wasn’t built for them. If your friend has carried any of that, your card can be a moment of validation. A simple, heartfelt message can be a way to say: "I see you. I honour everything you've overcome. I'm proud to know you."
- You’ve made your own space in the world. That’s brave as hell.
- You carry so much with grace and humour. I see it. I love you for it.
- Your existence makes things easier for people like you, and people like me, too.
Remind Them They’re Not Alone
Sometimes the most powerful message is also the simplest. You don’t need a grand speech or perfect poetry, just a line that says, "I'm here." Remind your friend that no matter what they’re facing, they’re supported, seen, and surrounded by love. Even one sentence can feel like a hug when it’s real.
- I’ve got your back. Always.
- Louder for the ones at the back: you are loved.
- The world’s better with you in it, and I hope you never forget that.
